The Brand

Marté Egele is a Lagos-based design brand of leather goods, accessories, and objects designed to travel; pieces that age beautifully, carry meaning beyond function, and live comfortably across continents.

Marté Egele is uniquely named after our Founder and Creative Director, Uche Martha Egele, a lover of life, travel, design, art and culture.

Behind every piece is the memory of someone who believed first. For Marté Egele, that person is Edna Chinyere Egele, Uche's mother, the brand's first believer, and its quiet backbone from the very beginning. She didn't build the bags, but she built the belief that made them possible. Her spirit remains at the centre of this studio: art is love made visible, and love is what we make with.

Founded in 2015, the brand began as a final project at FIDM Los Angeles and grew into a label worn by Beyoncé and Chimamanda Adichie, and featured in Condé Nast Traveller, L'Officiel, Financial Times, PAP Korea, and Interior Design Magazine.

At its core, Marté Egele remains a house of small leather goods: bags, accessories, and pieces designed to travel. Each is made in limited quantities, by hand, with intention. Additionally, our brand represents strong female empowerment. We have a goal of improving female presence in art, design and craftsmanship, and a commitment to promoting partnerships with organisations that support women.

Now, we are expanding into furniture and home goods beginning with the chair.

The Marté Throne: "Homecoming" is a sculptural wooden accent chair that fuses art, heritage, and modern design. Shown at Design Week Lagos 2025 and featured in Interior Design Magazine, it is named "Homecoming" because it bridges craftsmanship, community, and the seat you return to. Designed to live comfortably in homes, hotels, and galleries, it blurs the line between furniture and art.

This chair represents what Marté Egele has always been: slow-made, story-driven, and unapologetically grounded.

Marté Egele is selectively stocked at Kenten Accra, The Lotte Accra, and Good in Lagos. Previously seen at ALARA Lagos and Elle Lokko Accra.

Made in Nigeria. Designed to travel.
