Leather Care

How to Care for Your Marté Piece

Your bag was made slowly, by hand, to last a lifetime. With the right care, it will only get better with age.

Here's how to love it well:

· Let it breathe. Store your bag in its cotton dust bag, stuffed with tissue paper so it keeps its shape. Standing up, not folded.
· Keep it dry. Avoid humidity and direct heat—radiators, sunny windowsills, the dashboard of your car.
· Protect it from the things that mark. Perfume, makeup, hand sanitizer, oils. Let your lotion dry before you pick up your bag.
· Be gentle with hardware. The gold and silver finishes are delicate. A soft dry cloth is all you need. Avoid anything abrasive.
· Condition regularly. Treat your leather with a professional conditioner every few months. Waterproof it before rainy season. It's an investment—maintain it like one.
· Light colors need extra love. They stain more easily and are harder to clean. Worth it, but handle with care.

If it gets wet:
Don't rub. Dab gently with a soft dry cloth and let it air dry naturally. No heat, no panic.

If it stains:
Dab the spot with a barely damp soft cloth. Let it dry. Then apply a clear leather cream in gentle circles. Most marks will fade into the leather's story.

The truth about handmade leather:
It will scratch. It will darken in some places and soften in others. That's not damage. That's your life shaping it. A Marté bag isn't meant to look new forever. It's meant to look like yours.
